New environmental technology: machines produce drinking water from thin air
12 May 2020
You might think that such news sounds like pure science fiction, it sounds like pure science fiction, but it's forgivable that atmospheric water machines make this fantasy concept a reality. Fuzhou Green Olive, the company behind the technology innovation, hopes it will revolutionize developing countries by having a positive impact on communities lacking clean drinking water. These machines, known as "atmospheric water generation units", provide a more cost-effective solution than alternative water sources and have less environmental impact.
So how does it work?
The core of the system is actually very simple, using a heat exchanger similar to the heat exchanger in an air conditioning unit to quickly cool the hot and humid air. This condenses the water in the air, forming droplets of water, which are then collected in the water tank in the hydro-generator set. This process doesn't stop there, because water in the air can be contaminated with pollutants such as dust or dirt attached to tiny droplets of water. To combat this pollution, hydroelectric power stations have adopted sophisticated filtration systems that remove any chemical or other pollutants - leaving only clean and safe drinking water.
